1) I believe she symbolizes Melinda and the tree is that Melinda is the tree. I thinks she's been strucken , she's been hurt and that's what the lightning represents.
2) I think that the schools are becoming isolated because the kids appearence isn't approved by others. And they make them become an outcast.
3)Yes her relationship towards them would be different she would have more trust in them.
4) I really like the book a lot , because i can relate to people who felt like that like the whole world was against them at one point.
